πŸ“Ύ How word usage Is deducted from your balance

Redokun tracks the number of words you download from the platform. This system ensures fair usage across all plans and helps scale your subscription as your needs grow.

πŸ”’ When Are Words Deducted?

Words are deducted from your balance when you download a translated file for the first time, for each language.

  • Each downloaded word is counted only once, per language, per revision.
  • Downloading the same document again without uploading a new revision won't deduct words again.

βœ… How Are Words Counted?

Word deductions are based on the original document language (also known as the source language):

  • For most languages, words are counted normally (separated by spaces or punctuation).
  • For Chinese, Japanese, and Korean, each character is counted as one word.

Redokun calculates word usage using the number of words in the source document, regardless of how they are translated. This ensures consistency across human and AI-generated translations.

πŸ€” Why Does Redokun Have a Word Count Limit?

Running, improving, and maintaining Redokun is a significant and ongoing investment for our team. From software development to translation infrastructure and customer support, offering a high-quality, reliable service comes with real costs.

To keep our pricing fair and sustainable for companies of all sizes, we apply some limits to resource usage.

The word count limit is a simple way for us to understand how much of the platform’s resources each account consumes. It helps us maintain the balance between being accessible and sustainable.

While we know this solution might not be perfect, it’s a straightforward approach for now β€” and we're always happy to hear your feedback.

πŸ“˜ Example: How Word Deduction Works

Let’s say you upload a 100-word document and translate it into 3 languages.

  • Once you download the translated file in each of the 3 languages, Redokun will deduct 300 words (100 words Γ— 3 languages) from your balance.

This word usage is based on the number of source language words.

  • Re-downloading the same files later (without uploading a new revision) won’t consume more words.
  • If you upload a new revision of the same document, the updated version will be counted as a new file, and Redokun will deduct its word count again for each language you export.

⏳ What Happens If You Hit Your Limit?

If you run out of words, no worries:

  • πŸ”„ Wait until your next billing cycle when your balance resets, or
  • πŸ“ˆ Upgrade your plan to get a bigger word allowance right away! When you upgrade mid-cycle, Redokun applies proration to ensure fair billing.

🚫 What Doesn't Affect Word Balance?

The following actions do not deduct words from your balance:

  • Uploading documents
  • Using the Web Editor to translate
  • Running Pre-translate
  • Inviting translators
  • Downloading exchange files for offline work

Your balance is only affected when you download the final translated document.
