This guide explains what AI credits are, when they are used, and how to manage them. AI credits are essential to Redokun's AI-powered translation features, including Pre-translate and segment-level suggestions.
🤖 What are AI translation credits?
AI translation credits are used when Redokun applies AI-generated translations.
Each translation credit corresponds to one source word sent to the AI engine (e.g., DeepL, Google Translate, ChatGPT).
- For Latin-based languages, this means 1 word = 1 translation credit.
- For languages like Chinese, Japanese, and Korean, 1 character = 1 translation credit.
❗ AI translation credits are only used for segments translated by AI. Segments matched from your Translation Memory do not use credits.
📅 When AI translation credits are used
You will spend AI translation credits in two cases:
- Pre-Translate: When segments cannot be filled using Translation Memory, and you choose to use AI-generated translations.
- AI suggestions in the Web Editor: When you load AI-generated suggestions.
- AI Fine-Tune in the Web Editor (coming soon) – When you use AI to refine a translation (e.g., fix grammar, shorten, or load alternatives).
⚠️ AI-generated translations are saved as Draft and must be reviewed and confirmed manually.
📦 How AI translation credits work with your plan
- Monthly plans: Your AI translation credit balance resets every month.
- Annual plans: You receive your full yearly AI translation credit allowance upfront.
If you reach your limit:
- Wait until your next renewal period, or
- Upgrade your plan or request add-ons.
