🌍 Change the target language of a translation in progress or completed

Redokun doesn’t allow changing a target language after it’s been added to a document. However, if you need to switch to a different target language, you can reuse existing translations by exporting and importing them.

Depending on your situation, here’s how to proceed.

ℹ️ Why target languages can't be changed directly

Each target language is tied to its own structure, including Translation Memory records and background processing rules. Redokun uses these links to manage suggestions, segment alignment, and formatting tags. Changing a target language mid-process would disrupt these connections and could lead to inconsistencies or data loss. That’s why Redokun requires that you delete and re-add the language instead.

✅ If no segments were translated

If the target language hasn't been translated yet:

  1. Open the Document Detail page.
  2. Delete the incorrect target language from the document.
  3. Click Add language.
  4. Select the correct target language.
  5. Assign a translator as needed.

Your document is now ready to be translated into the right language.

🔁 If translations have already been added

If you’ve already translated some segments, follow these steps to reuse the content:

1. Export translations from the original target language

  1. Open the Document Detail page.
  2. Click the three-dot menu next to the original target language.
  3. Select Export phrases and choose the XLSX format.

2. Add the new target language

  1. Click Add language in the same document.
  2. Select the correct target language.
  3. Export its exchange file in XLSX format.

3. Copy translations into the new exchange file

  1. Open both the old and new XLSX files.
  2. Copy the translations from Column C of the old file.
  3. Paste them into Column C of the new file, making sure they align with the source segments in Column B.

4. Import the updated translations

  1. Go to the new target language row.
  2. Click the ⬆ upload icon.
  3. Upload the updated XLSX file.

✅ Tip: Ensure formatting tags (like #1 , #2 ) are preserved correctly during copy-paste.
